Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) Exam
- The NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) Exam has transitioned to Computer Based Testing (CBT) on January 14, 2014.

- Passing the FS Exam does not automatically approve you for Intern Certification. You must meet all requirements to obtain Intern Certification.
SI Certification
Certification as Surveyor Intern upon Successfully Completing the FLS Exam

- Please complete the SI Application Once done, submit it to our Board Office along with an official transcript (posting the degree earned and received by the board directly from the school).

- Three references, two must be from licensed professional surveyors. All references must be included on the supplied Reference Form, which can be opened and filled out with Adobe Reader (to obtain the latest version, please visit https://get.adobe.com/reader/ for a free download). Completed forms must be received in the Board office directly from the references.
- Signed Abstract of Applicant Statement of Qualifications form is required to accompany the reference form.

- Verification of having successfully completed the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination if completed in another state. All information must be on the supplied Verification Form, or through the NCEES verification portal. Form(s) must be received by the board directly from the state board office.
EXPEDITED PATH FOR COMITY/ENDORSEMENT APPLICATIONS PURSUANT TO 61-23-27.4 E.(2)*

- Professional Surveyor Application. Application Submittal Deadlines

(An additional license fee will apply once approved for licensure) - Verification of: 1) current license from another jurisdicition of an active license for fifteen continuous years immediately preceding application to New Mexico, and, 2) completion of both the FLS and PPLS examinations administered by NCEES. All information must be included on the supplied Verification Form, or through the NCEES verification portal. Form(s) must be received by the board directly from the state board office. All verifications must be received by the board directly from the licensing jurisdictions.
- Upon review and acceptance of the application by the Board, all comity applicants must successfully complete a two-hour New Mexico surveying examination on New Mexico law.

An applicant may be licensed by endorsement or comity if the applicant:
(2) another state, the District of Columbia or a territory of the United States; and provide futher that the applicant:
(a) has been actively licensed for the continuous fifteen years immediately preceeding applicatin to New Mexico;
(b) has not received any form of disciplinary action related to the practice of surveying or professional conduct from any jurisdiction within the five years proceding application to New Mexico;
(c) has not had the applicant’s professional license suspended or revoked at any time from any jurisdiction; and
(d) has passed examinations the board deems necessary to determine the applicant’s qualifications, including a written examination that includes questions on laws, procedures and practices pertaining to surveying in New Mexico;
LICENSE AS A PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR THROUGH COMITY/ENDORSEMENT

COMITY/ENDORSEMENT APPLICATIONS SUPPORTED BY NATIONAL COUNCIL OF EXAMINERS FOR ENGINEERING AND SURVEYING (NCEES) COUNCIL RECORDS.

(An additional license fee will apply once approved for licensure) - NCEES Council RecordThe NCEES Council Record contains all supporting documentation such as transcripts, reference letters, etc. in one packet. An applicant only needs to complete certain sections of the appropriate application and note in the other sections that a Council Record will be forthcoming.A Council Record labeled as a “Model Law Surveyor” will reduce the time to process the application (board review is still required).The Council Record establishes a permanent record that may be updated yearly and facilitates interstate licensing. This Record of an engineer’s licensure credentials and history will be electronically transmitted to the New Mexico Board at your request. [You must request this through NCEES; we can not do this for you.] If you do not already have an NCEES Council Record contact NCEES to establish one at: www.ncees.org/records or by calling (800) 250-3196. However, keep in mind that New Mexico, as each Board, still retains authority over the licensure decision.

- Reinstatement of a license that is lapsed less than (5) five years requires 2 current references. Being lapsed five years or more requires 5 new references. Completed forms must be received in the Board office directly from the references.
- Affidavit of Practice.
- Professional Development Reporting Form(for Reinstatement Applicants) . Applicants must obtain all delinquent PDH units. However, if the total number exceeds thirty (30) PDH units, then thirty (30) units shall be the maximum number required. Please note: Two (2) of the thirty (30) continuing hours required must be in ethics as noted in the New Mexico Administrative Code 16.39.2.8 (D) Requirements.
